UK Libraries Now Taking Submissions for 2018-19 Dean’s Undergraduate Scholarship Award
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 28, 2019) — The University of Kentucky Libraries is now accepting applications for the UK Libraries Dean’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Scholarship for the academic year 2018-19. In its third year, the award seeks to recognize and celebrate exceptional, original scholarship and excellent research conducted by UK undergraduates whose research projects make substantive and creative use of the UK Libraries’ collections, services and resources.
This year, a second category has been added for “Digital Methodologies” and a cash prize of $1,000 will be awarded to one individual undergraduate student in each category. The winner(s) and their faculty sponsor(s) will be honored at a special event in the spring.
“This award allows UK Libraries to celebrate scholarly achievement and recognize the success of our undergraduates,” says Jaime Marie Burton, director of Research Services and Education and chair of the award selection committee. “We have received influential and inspiring submissions the last two years, truly demonstrating the positive impact UK’s students can have on the Commonwealth and beyond.”
Submissions are encouraged from all disciplines, in any format that demonstrates strong, scholarly work. Awards are judged on how well a student’s project demonstrates:
- extensive, effective use of library resources;
- proficient research skills;
- information literacy competence; and
- solid scholarship within their discipline.
Awards are given only if submissions meeting award criteria are received. The winner is encouraged to include mention of the award as part of their abstract at the Showcase of Undergraduate Scholars.

Applicants for the UK Libraries Dean’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Scholarship should submit their applications by March 29, 2019. Awardees will be notified by email before April 15, 2019.
