Homecoming 2013: Under the Big Blue Top
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 12, 2013) — As fall approaches, it’s time for Homecoming in the Bluegrass yet again! University of Kentucky Homecoming 2013 is Sunday, Oct. 27, through Saturday, Nov. 2. With a new season, comes a new and fresh approach to Homecoming 2013. The University of Kentucky Homecoming Coalition is pleased to announce this year's Homecoming theme is “Under the Big Blue Top.”
The Homecoming Coalition was created three years ago to help facilitate and promote a more unified Homecoming at UK. The coalition is comprised of representatives from the Student Activities Board, the Black Student Union, the Student Government Association, Center for Community Outreach - Dance Blue, TEAM WILDCAT and Students Today Alumni Tomorrow (STAT). All of which work together to conduct a magnificent and cohesive show.
Homecoming week is teeming with events hosted by the various organizations listed above that are geared toward Wildcats young and old.
Below is a brief listing of this year’s Homecoming events.
Sunday, Oct. 27
DanceBlue 5K
Kick off Homecoming week with one of the first official fundraisers for the 2014 dance marathon. The race starts at 3 p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium.
Cost and Registration: $15 pre-registration and $20 day-of race
Registration will be available online at www.danceblue.org.
Paint the Town Blue
Date: Saturday, Oct. 26, and Sunday, Oct. 27 (Painting); Monday, Oct. 28 (Judging)
Time: 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 26 through 8 a.m., Monday, Nov. 4
Location: Various off- and on-campus locations
Monday, Oct 28
Homecoming Pep Rally
Help officially kick off Homecoming Week at the Wildcat Alumni Plaza located off Avenue of Champions, directly across from Memorial Coliseum! In addition to other activities, there will be appearances by former football players, cheerleaders, dance team and the UK band. The Homecoming Royalty Court will also be announced and present. This event is FREE to attend!
Tuesday, Oct. 29
Kitty Karnival
Kitty Karnival features small carnival games created by student organizations for children to come and enjoy on campus. Going on its seventh year, this event has become a UK and community tradition that both students and children love to attend! This event welcomes local schools, UK alumni, faculty, staff and students and their families. Stop by Good Barn Field from 5 to 7 p.m. and enjoy this event! Parking is available next to Good Barn Field.
Whose Got Game? Student vs. Alumni Basketball Game
A new name but the same game. After the Kitty Karnival, see the Wildcats of yesterday and today at the Black Student Union’s Alumni vs. Student basketball game! Admission is completely free. You can catch the game at the Seaton Center. Tip off begins at 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 30
Mr. and Miss Black UK
The Black Student Union and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. host this annual pageant where UK’s most outstanding students compete for the crown and title of Mr. and Miss Black UK. Stop by Memorial Hall at 7 p.m. to see this year’s pageant.
Ticket Information: $3 with a canned good and $5 without a canned good
Thursday, Oct. 31
CAT’s Canstruction
Help support our university and community by participating in or attending the CANstruction event on Thursday, Oct. 31, from noon to 3 p.m. Creating structures entirely out of canned goods, relevant to the Homecoming theme, will not only fuel school spirit, but it will also benefit the local nonprofit God’s Pantry, as all items will be donated once structures are built and judged.

Friday, Nov. 1
NPHC Step Show
The University of Kentucky’s National Pan-Hellenic Counsel presents its annual Step Show, Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at Memorial Coliseum on UK's campus. The Step Show consists of performances from eight of the Divine Nine organizations (Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.; Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.; and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.) here at the University of Kentucky.
Show starts at 7:30 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Cost and registration: Tickets became available at the UK Student Involvement Ticket Center Sept. 11 for $10 for UK students, faculty and staff with a valid UK ID. General public tickets will be available for purchase on Ticketmaster.com for $15. All tickets will be $20 at the door on the night of the event.
Saturday, Nov. 2
Royalty Crowning
Come cheer on our Wildcats and find out who will be crowned as this year’s royalty. Homecoming royalty will be announced during the Homecoming football game vs. Alabama State. The court goes through two rounds of difficult judging focused on academics and involvement at UK and in the community before a student vote decides the new King and Queen.
