Creating a Ruckus Can Be a Good Thing

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 19, 2011) – Kick off the school year right at one of UK and the Student Activities Board’s best traditions, Campus Ruckus! The fun starts Saturday, Aug. 20, after Big Blue U in the green parking lot of Commonwealth Stadium. This event is free and sponsored by the Student Activities Board.

A K Week tradition, Campus Ruckus is an annual event that brings student organizations and thousands of students to Commonwealth stadium to celebrate the start of a new school year.

Activities this year will include a variety of inflatables, laser tag and two rock climbing walls. DJ Matt Price will be spinning all night to a crowd of thousands of freshmen and returning students alike. Grab a free Campus Ruckus T-shirt in addition to hundreds of other free items that will be available during the night.

More than 60 student organizations also will be there to let students know how they can get involved on campus. Free food and drinks will be available from four local Lexington vendors including Naked Pizza, Raising Cane’s, Joe Bologna and Qdoba at “Taste of Lexington.” The fireworks show will end the evening and will be shooting from Commonwealth Stadium starting at 11 p.m.

“I had so much fun at Campus Ruckus last year! It has been one of my favorite K Week events since I was a freshman,” said Riana English, director of the SAB Campus Life Committee.

SAB brings more than 100 events to the University of Kentucky annually that enhance the college experience by providing students, other members of the campus and the Lexington community with entertaining, educational or enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends.
