Farmer's MarCat Returns

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 11, 2013) — Agriculture and sustainability play important roles in Kentucky. The Farmer's "MarCat" and Sustainability Fair, featuring Kentucky Proud farms, will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today, Thursday, April 11, on the Student Center Patio. This event is sponsored by the Student Activities Board Engaging Issues Committee.

The Farmer’s MarCat provides students the opportunity to purchase fresh produce and homemade goods from local farmers and businesses. Now in its fifth semester, the homegrown market brings greater awareness to the fresh, local resources available to students and the Lexington community. Student and community organizations will be available to distribute additional information about sustainability and local growing efforts as well as ways for students to get involved.

“The Farmers MarCat goal is to promote healthy and environmentally sustainable living for students on campus,” said Sydney Dobson, Student Activities Board director of engaging issues. “Students are always excited for this event, and it’s a great tradition.”

The Student Activities Board brings more than 100 entertaining, educational and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually. These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff and the greater Lexington community.
