Kentucky Pride Week Celebrates the Best of the Bluegrass
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 16, 2013) — What do you love about Kentucky? Horse racing? Kentucky bluegrass? The greatest tradition in college basketball? The Student Activities Board is proud to celebrate the Commonwealth during the first ever Kentucky Pride Week, Sept. 16-20.
Kentucky Pride Week will begin with the Farmer’s MarCat and Sustainability Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, on the Student Center Patio. Students will be able to purchase fresh Kentucky Proud produce and foods while learning more about living sustainable lifestyles.
A lecture from Griffin Van Meter and Whit Hiler of Kentucky for Kentucky will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, in Center Theater, informing students about the KY4KY mission to rebrand the state. Immediately following the lecture will be the Kentucky for Kentucky Exhibit Reception in the Rasdall Gallery. The exhibit runs until Sept. 30.
Wednesday, Sept. 18, will host the Kentucky Craft Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Student Center Patio, offering Kentucky-made products from local businesses.
The week will end with Lexington-native Ben Sollee performing at 8 p.m Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Kentucky Theatre with special guest Justin Paul Lewis.
“Kentucky has so much to offer, and we’re proud to call the Commonwealth home,” said Micaha Dean, SAB president. “Kentucky Pride Week will showcase all that we love about our state — fantastic foods, handcrafted products, homegrown ideas and acoustic and folk music.”
Ben Sollee with special guest Justin Paul Lewis at the Kentucky Theatre is a ticketed event. Tickets are free for students, faculty and staff with a valid UK ID, and are $10 for general public. Tickets can be purchased at the Student Involvement Ticket Office or at showclix.com. Shuttle buses will run from Baldwin and Ingels Halls, William T. Young Library and the Avenue of Champions bus stop opposite Jewel Hall to The Kentucky Theater from 6:30 to 11 p.m.
SAB brings more than 100 entertaining, educational and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually. These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff, and the greater Lexington community.
