Krochet Kids Come to UK
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 9, 2012) — There’s no such thing as too much yarn — or heart for that matter. The University of Kentucky Student Activities Board presents a speaking event featuring, Krochet Kids, an organization that reinforces that heart every day.
Krochet Kids is a nonprofit organization started by three high school friends who were inspired to “teach people in developing countries how to crochet as a means to break the cycle of poverty.” The growing organization currently empowers individuals in African communities to rise above poverty by teaching them to crochet headwear, clothing and accessories that are sold globally.
The organization has created a sustainable development program with the motto, “Buy a hat. Change a life,” which provides individuals with education, mentorship and jobs to meet their family's needs.
“Whether we are founders, creators, or consumers, we are all working together to change lives,” Sydney Dobson, director of engaging issues said. “SAB hopes this event will enrich all attendees’ education because it will not only address helping others, but will also show individuals how to stay humble and know that there is always more to learn.”
The Krochet Kids event will take place Friday at 7 p.m. in the Worsham Theater, located inside the Student Center. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend. Immediately following the event there will be a meet and greet and opportunity to purchase Krochet Kids merchandise in the Rasdall Gallery.
SAB brings more than 100 entertaining, educational and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually. These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff and the greater Lexington community.
