Where Painting, Photography and Architecture Meet

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 24, 2011) – Professor Mark O’Bryan is the definition of a modern day renaissance man. He paints, is a photographer an architect and an exhibit of his work will be on display in the Rasdall Gallery in the Student Center starting Monday, Oct. 24 through Wednesday, Nov. 9. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. This event is free and sponsored by the Student Activities Board.

O’Bryan is an associate professor in the UK School of Architecture and teaches a design studio class for second year architecture students. O’Bryan graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in architecture. He later was accepted into the American Academy in Rome in 1985 where he studied architecture. He later attended graduate school at Cornell University and graduated in 1987 with a master's degree in architecture. 

O’Bryan will speak about his creative process and how he integrates his art into his architecture plans and models. 

           

“I think students will be able to see how design works not only in architecture but through other works like painting and photography,” said Shannon Ruhl, director of SAB Cultural Arts Committee. “O’Bryan’s exhibit will definitely be of high quality and one that any student interested in art should see.”

A lecture will be held from 6-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, in 209 Pence Hall followed by a reception in the Rasdall Gallery from 7-9 p.m. Refreshments will be provided at the reception.

The Student Activities Board brings more than 100 events to the University of Kentucky annually that enhance the college experience by providing students, other members of the campus and the Lexington community with entertaining, educational or enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends.
