Student Parking Permit Renewal Begins May 1

of

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 28, 2010)University of Kentucky Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) is currently preparing for its annual student parking permit renewal and application process. Students must apply for permits online (www.uky.edu/parking) or through the mail May 1 through August 31. Walk-in customers are allowed after August 31.

UK students must use their link blue login and password in order to apply for a permit online. These single sign-in credentials provide access to UK's email, Blackboard, wireless, and other services. BCTC students must use their KCTCS username and password.

The parking permit application process for the 2010-2011 academic year will begin May 1, 2010, for all UK and BCTC students. Application dates vary depending on whether renewing an existing permit or changing a permit option. Students are encouraged to apply for a permit early, as permits are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis. For more information on application and enforcement dates, please visit the student permit calendar at http://www.uky.edu/Parking/permits-calendar.html. Students applying for an R permit must wait until they have a confirmed housing assignment from UK Housing.

After a year of no permit fee increases, PTS has instituted a moderate increase in student permit rates. Student C, R and K permits are $248 for the 2010-2011 academic year, while evening permits are $120. Students who require a motorcycle permit in addition to their vehicle permit should contact Parking Services directly after purchasing their permit online.

Permit application cards for students applying through the mail may be picked up at the main office at 721 Press Avenue (Parking Structure #6) and at the satellite office located on the first floor of Parking Structure #5 (located next to Kennedy Book Store).

To complete an application, applicants should have on hand their home address, license plate number of their primary vehicle, link blue or KCTCS login and password and a MasterCard or Visa. All outstanding parking citations must be paid before a permit application is accepted. Failure to pre-pay citations may result in an applicant not receiving the permit of their choice. Citations may be paid online at www.uky.edu/Parking.

If the initial permit requested is no longer available, eligible students may submit a lottery request online for C and R permits. Eligibility criteria must be met to purchase the desired permit. Lottery drawings are typically held two to three weeks after the beginning of the semester, based on the availability of R or C spaces, and notification is sent via electronic mail.
