Student's Holiday Couture Places in Challenge
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 12, 2010) - University of Kentucky freshman Sarah Jane Estes, of Danville, took second place honors at the Holiday Designers Challenge presented by the Louisville Fashion Network.
As one of eight finalists in the Holiday Designers Challenge, a dress by Estes was worn by a model from RPM Models walking in the "Design Challenge" Fashion Show held Dec. 19, at PRIME Lounge, in Louisville. The show featured the work of the eight regional designers side-by-side designs from The Peacock Boutique and Heather by Heather French Henry.
For her design's second place finish, Estes received a gift box from the Louisville Fashion Network that included a variety of sewing supplies.
The Holiday Designers Challenge asked professional and amateur fashion designers from Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio to design from scratch a holiday couture piece. Finalists asked to appear in the fashion show were selected from submitted photos or sketches.
Estes, a 2007 graduate of Boyle County High School, is pursuing a major in merchandising, apparel and textiles and a minor in art studio at UK. She hopes to help build a market for designers in Lexington.
Louisville Fashion Network is a fashion organization with members who are top local industry professionals from Louisville, southern Indiana, and the surrounding region. The organization is the official home of Louisville Fashion Week.
