There’s Still Time to Support DanceBlue

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 16, 2011) – All the dancers may be resting up but the fundraising efforts are not over for DanceBlue 2011. There’s still time to support the Commonwealth’s largest student-run philanthropy.

Donating to DanceBlue financially is easy and there are several different ways to make your contribution count. DanceBlue’s website, www.danceblue.org, makes donating easy. There’s a large button on the homepage that allows anyone to simply click, fill out the form and give.

When you visit the marathon, you can also support the cause. At the welcome booth, donations will be accepted throughout the 24 hours. There is also a silent auction at DanceBlue. Held on the upper concourse of Memorial Coliseum, all of the money raised goes to support the Golden Matrix Fund and pediatric cancer research.

Financial support isn’t the only type of support needed at the marathon – moral support is vital to making the event successful and to keep the dancers going for the full 24 hours. Friends, families and the community at large are invited to observe the marathon and cheer on the dancers.

At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18, supporters are asked to gather on Stoll Field to create a human tunnel. When the dancers are released from the Student Center, they will run through the cheering crowd on their way to Memorial Coliseum to kick off the marathon.

The Coliseum will be open to the public for the duration of DanceBlue and everyone is encouraged to attend. At the top of every hour, the famous DanceBlue line dance is done by all 700 dancers. Also, there will be giveaways for spectators each hour from some great Lexington businesses.

DanceBlue is UK’s 24 hour no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon that benefits the Golden Matrix Fund and the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at the Kentucky Children’s Hospital. Now in its sixth year, DanceBlue has raised more than $2 million for pediatric cancer research and children with cancer.
