UK Students Asked to Create Rupp Arena Concert Poster

of

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 21, 2011) − Students at the University of Kentucky have the opportunity to design a poster for the upcoming Rupp Arena concert featuring the folk rock band the Avett Brothers. The winner of the contest will receive a cash prize, tickets to the concert and will meet the band. Submissions to this art contest will be accepted through Sept. 28.

Only a few requirements have been set for the poster art competition for the Avett Brothers' national tour stop in Lexington. All artwork should be submitted digitally and measure 14 inches wide by 22 inches tall. Artwork must be either in a PDF format or a 300dpi JPG. Finally all contest submissions must contain the band's name, concert date and location, and ticket purchasing information. To print out a submission form and see competition specifics, visit: http://uknow.uky.edu/sites/default/files/abruppdetails_final.jpg. Applicants must send their submissions to Matt Page, lecturer in the UK Department of Art, by Wednesday, Sept. 28. The artwork and submission form should be emailed to mattcpage@yahoo.com

Judges will narrow competition entries down to a top 20 list, which will be submitted to the Avett Brothers. The Avett Brothers will then select the top five entries. Those finalists will be posted on Rupp Arena’s Facebook page. Fans will vote on which design they want to win the art competition.

The grand prize winner of the art competition will be announced Oct. 13, and will receive a $150 cash prize, two tickets to the Avett Brothers Oct. 27 concert at Rupp Arena, and two meet and greet passes to meet the band. The winning poster will be featured on Rupp Arena's website and social media accounts and will be used for promotion of the concert.

The four runners-up in the poster competition will receive a $25 cash prize and two tickets to the Avett Brothers concert.

Open to any UK student, the poster competition is presented by Rupp Arena in conjunction with UK Department of Art. The UK Department of Art, at the UK College of Fine Arts, is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in the fields of art studio, art history and art education.
