Winter Welcomes Wildcats Back to Campus

The University of Kentucky is open and operating on a normal schedule today, Wednesday, Jan. 12.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 12, 2011) – Today UK’s campus is bustling with activity for the first time in the new decade as the spring 2011 semester begins.

UK welcomes brand new students as well as returning students to campus with K2 Week, an abbreviated, smaller scale welcome week similar to the fall’s K Week. Yesterday, hundreds of new Wildcats were officially welcomed to the Big Blue Nation during K2 Kick-off. The day’s events featured an induction ceremony, presentations from veteran students and tips for academic success.

Today and tomorrow, Jan. 12 and 13, volunteers from the Division of Student Affairs will be on hand to make sure everyone has a “super start” to the semester. From 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day, students are encouraged to stop by the Super Start tent, located outside of the Classroom Building, to grab some hot chocolate and get any of their questions answered.

Wonder if the snowy weather outside means classes are delayed or canceled? Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to update their UK Alert information to get the latest information on delays or cancellations sent to their phones via text messaging or to get a phone call with information. Updating one’s information is easy; students, faculty and staff can access their accounts through the MyUK portal.

Here are a few other welcome back activities going on around campus this week as well as a few important deadlines for students to remember:
