Creatures and Creepy Cuisine Mark Commons Halloween

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 31, 2013) — Zombies have invaded UK’s campus!

To save students from the apocalypse, Commons dining hall, located on south campus, has created a “safe zone” from 5 to 9 p.m. this Halloween.

Cannibal finger sandwiches, silence of the leg of lamb and big zombie mustard chicken tagine are just a few of the entrees Commons will be serving. For dessert, the dining hall will offer brain cupcakes, sugar cookie fingers, eyeball cups and dirt pudding.

Since Oct. 27, student leaders and workers have transformed Commons into a “Zombie Town.”

“Decorations were a team effort from the start.  Each different aspect of the dining room came from a different person," Lee Hendrickson, general manager of UK Dining Services, said. "Some ideas started out small and the more we talked about it with the student workers the more ideas came out.”

Dining Services is also entered into a contest for a national award on best themed residential event through the National Association of College and University Food Services.

To show support, students are encouraged to dress up, as the dining staff will be morphed into zombies.

All are welcome to attend. The price of dinner is $10, or a meal swipe.
