LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 22, 2024) — DanceBlue is participating in the fourth annual Commonwealth Cup fundraiser beginning Jan. 22. The Commonwealth Cup is a fundraising event that unites students throughout Kentucky in support of one cause:  raising money to fight pediatric illness.

This year, the Commonwealth Cup is a fundraising drive between the University of Kentucky, University of Louisville and Western Kentucky University. For one week, each school will push fundraising efforts in support of its individual organizations (DanceBlue, RaiseRED and Dance Big Red, respectively).

From Jan. 22-26, the Commonwealth Cup fundraiser will take place on each organization’s social media platforms, with daily posts to encourage fundraising and templates for students to use for personal fundraising. Last year, the schools were able to raise over $100,000 and we are hoping that this year will be even more successful.

To help the fundraising efforts, DanceBlue is hosting a week-long fundraiser with different themes each day:

  • Motivation Monday
  • Togetherness Tuesday
  • “Why I DB” Wednesday
  • DB for Kentucky Thursday
  • Fundraising Friday

Additionally, on Jan. 23, DanceBlue is partnering with Lexington restaurants to put on the DanceBlue Dine Around.

During these times, each restaurant will be donating a portion of their sales to DanceBlue.

  • North Lime Donuts (Greyline Station and Clays Mills locations) from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Pasta Garage from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Puccini’s from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Freshies from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Enjoy great food and support a good cause.

DanceBlue is a University of Kentucky student-run organization that fundraises year-round and culminates in a 24-hour no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon. Over $20 million has been raised since 2006, making DanceBlue one of the largest student-run philanthropies in the Southeastern Conference. As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
