Lecture to Discuss UK's Work Fighting HIV and AIDS in Zambia

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 16, 2014) — Faculty and staff in the University of Kentucky School of Journalism and Telecommunications are fighting HIV and AIDS in Zambia.

Beth Barnes, director of the School of Journalism and Telecommunications, will discuss the school’s partnership with a media training organization in Zambia to raise the standard of reporting and use journalistic techniques to provide information on HIV and AIDS. The event will take place noon to 1 p.m. Friday, April 18, in the UK Chandler Hospital Pavilion A auditorium. 

"This presentation will outline the main elements of the PEPFAR-funded partnership, including work with community radio stations and community health workers, a ‘Newspaper in Education’ project in secondary schools, and media training on branding, advertising and marketing," Barnes said.

The talk is part of the Global Health Lecture Series, which encourages the UK community to foster the development of global health research locally and with partner institutions.

The lecture series is hosted by UK’s Global Health Initiative, which is focused on advancing research, educational programs and service learning for faculty and students, with the goal of improving the health of people throughout the world and promoting health equity.
