LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 15, 2016) — University of Kentucky Education Abroad (UK EA) and International Studies Abroad (ISA) will host their annual service event, Night of Service, 2-6 p.m. today, Nov. 15. This year, UK students will have the opportunity to donate their time and support to the Lexington-based, nonprofit International Book Project (IPB).

IBP is committed to promoting literacy in underserved areas of the world, both domestic and abroad. Students participating in the Night of Service will be taking their first steps in directly serving the global community during IBP’s packing party. At this gathering, students will help pack novels, textbooks, children’s books, dictionaries and more that are going to international destinations.

“Education abroad is not just about traveling to distant countries to study one’s subject,” said Miko McFarland, UK EA acting director. “We also want to emphasize to students that global reach often starts within our local community. Each of us can make an international impact by engaging in ongoing service projects right here in Lexington.”

In addition to sponsoring Night of Service, ISA offers a variety of international service-learning projects through UK EA. For more information about international service-learning programs, visit bit.ly/2f5H0gv or call 859-323-2143.

The Night of Service will take place at the International Book Project (1440 Delaware Ave). There will be a reflection and dinner after the event.
