Noted Educator Steve Perry to Deliver Lecture on Education in America
LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 3, 2015) — The UK College of Communication and Information is partnering with the UK Office of Community Engagement, Division of Student Affairs, and the Department of Educational Leadership Studies in the UK College of Education to present noted educator, Steve Perry, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, in Memorial Hall.
The event is free and open to the public.
Perry is the principal and founder of the highly acclaimed Capital Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford, Connecticut. Capital Prep, which is comprised mainly of students from a low socioeconomic status, has a 100 percent success rate of sending its graduates to four-year colleges since its first graduating class in 2006. Perry provides commentary for publications and other media such as CNN, MSNBC and Essence Magazine. He is a best-selling author and recently released a new book, "Push Has Come to Shove: Getting Our Kids the Education They Deserve – Even If It Means Picking a Fight."
Perry has been featured on Oprah’s Lifeclass and works with the Disney Dreamers Academy. He has also hosted TV One’s award winning docudrama, "Save My Son."
Perry’s lecture is titled "Saving Our Youth: Revolutionizing Education in America."
