From One Family to Another: Welcome to Our Home

LEXINGTON, Ky (Nov. 5, 2009) – The family is coming for a visit this weekend, Nov. 6-8, and the entire campus is rolling out the Big Blue carpet. It's Family Weekend again at the University of Kentucky, and hundreds of families will share the unique UK experience with their students for a few days.

The UK Parent Association has created a flexible schedule of events that allows ample opportunity for a family to customize their weekend with activities that interest them. The events reflect the wide variety of activities and resources that are available to students throughout the year, as well as some special opportunities just for Family Weekend participants.

Family Weekend includes something for everyone.

UK families will do everything from cheering on the Wildcats to working out at the Johnson Student Recreation Center. They will visit numerous campus offices and tour downtown Lexington. They will eat barbecue with hundreds of UK fans before the football game as well as enjoy an intimate Sunday brunch at historic Spindletop Hall.

All parents and family members of UK undergraduates are encouraged to register with the Parent Association online to receive the Cat Chat e-mail newsletter with Family Weekend news and updates.

UK Parent Association recommends that families stop by the UK Visitor Center located in the Main Building and the Lexington Convention and Visitors Bureau in downtown Lexington to learn more about campus and the city.

Highlights of Family Weekend include:

·                     Chicago’s famed Second City comedy troupe

·                     UK men’s basketball exhibition vs. Clarion

·                     Annual Family Weekend pre-game tent party

·                     UK vs. Eastern Kentucky football game

·                     Sunday brunch at historic Spindletop Hall

·                     College and office open houses

The schedule includes events that are ticketed as well as free. Organizers encourage people to buy tickets in advance as they may not be available at the door prior to the event.
