Portion of South Limestone To Close at 3 p.m. Today for Block Party

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 20, 2012) ― The portion of South Limestone between Avenue of Champions and Maxwell Street will be closed to traffic from 3 p.m. to midnight today, Friday, April 20, for the Block Party BANG, an event sponsored by the Student Activities Board in collaboration with the South Limestone Association of Merchants. The event is scheduled to last from 6 to 10 p.m.

University of Kentucky Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) advises those who park on North Campus or drive on the surrounding streets to expect heavier-than-normal congestion during the street closure, and should allow extra time in reaching their destinations.

Public parking will be available for block party attendees in Parking Structure #5, next to Kennedy Book Store on South Limestone until 1 a.m. Parking will be free for those attending the block party when departing the structure between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m. Parking is not permitted after 1 a.m.

Starting at 3 p.m., PTS will modify the CATS Blue Route by turning down Patterson one-way and picking up the normal route again on Rose Street (bypassing South Limestone north of Avenue of Champions). The same modification will be in place for the CATS Yellow Night Route.

All CATS buses are on Cat Tracker, a real-time GPS-based bus locating system. Cat Tracker can be accessed at http://uky.transloc.com, via the free TransLoc Android, BlackBerry and iPhone apps and through QR and SMS codes located on each bus stop sign.

The Block Party BANG is part of the Student Activities Board’s semester-ending The Big Finish! festivities, and is free and open to the public. For more information on the event, visit www.uksab.org or www.facebook.com/UKSAB.
