Business Leader Paul Chellgren Visits UK

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 2, 2013) — The University of Kentucky’s second annual Transformational Leadership in Action Program, featuring business leader Paul Chellgren, is slated for 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, in the Worsham Theater of the Student Center.

Chellgren is an operating partner of Snow Phipps and currently serves as the chairman of ArrMaz Custom Chemicals Inc. and served as chairman of Excel Mining Systems, LLC and FiberVisions Corporation prior to Snow Phipps’ sale.  Chellgren was formerly chairman and CEO of Ashland Inc., a global diversified energy and chemical company, from 1997 until he retired in 2002, and was at the company since 1974.  During his tenure as chairman and CEO, Chellgren presided over the distribution to shareholders of Ashland’s stake in Arch Coal Inc., formation of the Marathon Ashland Petroleum refining venture with USX-Marathon (now Marathon Oil Corp.), divestiture of its exploration and production division and acquisition of several businesses which were combined with Ashland’s highway paving and construction and chemical operations.

Chellgren received an MBA from Harvard University, a D.D.E from Oxford University and a B.S. in accounting and economics from the University of Kentucky. In addition to board memberships with Ashland, he is currently a director of PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. He is currently director of numerous public and private organizations, including American Friends of University College, Oxford, the Taft Museum of Art, Centre College, and the Greater Cincinnati Foundation. He was initiated into ODK while a UK student in 1963.

The event is presented by Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society, in collaboration with Big Blue Starters, the UK College of Communication and Information, College of Engineering, and the UK Student Center director’s office.
