Chemical Spill on UK Campus Determined Non-reactive, Clean-up Under Way

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 15, 2013) — Lexington Hazardous Materials teams have determined a nitric acid spill that occurred around 10:40 a.m. today, June 15, in a lab of the Health Sciences Research Building on Veterans Drive on UK's campus is non-reactive. UK's Environmental Health and Safety is now in the process of cleaning the spill. Veterans Drive and the portion of University Drive closesd earlier have reopened.  The second floor of the Health Sciences Research Building will remain closed while the clean-up takes place.  No one was injured in the incident, which required the building to be evacuated.
