Get a Grip on Mobile Communications at 'Information Anywhere'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 27, 2011) — Join the University of Kentucky School of Libarary and Information Science for "Information Anywhere," a free class on mobile communications technology by instructor Max Anderson from 1-5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17.

This four-hour class is an overview of the plethora of mobile devices available today and how they impact libraries and health care. The class will discuss Apple’s products (including iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad), Blackberry devices, and Google Android-powered phones and devices. Popular uses and applications for these devices, with particular emphasis on those that make use of the products of the National Library of Medicine will be highlighted.  

Students will learn what it takes to create mobile applications and websites, and will participate in a hands-on activity to create a simple mobile website. QR (quick response) codes and augmented reality will also be discussed. Students who own or have access to a mobile device (smartphone, tablet, iPad, etc.) are encouraged to bring it to the class.
