Moser Named 2012 Distinguished Nurse Researcher

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 27, 2012) − Debra Moser, professor at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing and director of the Center for Behavioral Research on Self-Management of Cardiopulmonary Diseases, recently received the 2012 Distinguished Researcher award from the Southern Nursing Research Society.

The Distinguished  Researcher Award recognizes the contribution of an individual whose established program of research has enhanced the science and practice of nursing in the Southern region.

Moser's program of research at UK has been continually funded since 1989 and is focused on improving outcomes of people with, or at risk for, cardiovascular disease through improvement of psychological well-being and quality of life, and enhancing self-management.

Moser is recognized as a scholar and leader in research nationally and internationally. She has given more than 40 presentations at international conferences, including a number of invited talks and keynote addresses at conferences across the United States and in Europe, Asia and Australia.

Moser presented the prestigious American Association of Critical Care Nursing Distinguished Research Lecture in recognition of her research about the impact of anxiety on outcomes of critically ill adult's.

She is a prolific author with more than 200 journal articles, three books and more than 20 book chapters. She has received numerous awards and recognitions for her mentorship, professional leadership, research and scholarship. She is co-editor of the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing and is an editorial board member for a number of highly rated, peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary journals.

Moser is currently serving as visiting professor at Trinity College School of Nursing and Midwifery in Dublin, Ireland, and is an adjunct professor at the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. Within the past five years, she also served as a visiting professor at the University of Western Sydney's School of Nursing and College of Health and Science in Sydney, Australia, and the University of Stirling, Stirling, Scotland.
