UK NSSLHA Holds Bandana Drive to Benefit Ecuadorian Child Development Center

Published: Nov 26, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 26, 2012) -- The University of Kentucky's National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) at the UK College of Health Sciences  has been holding a "Bandana Drive" during the month of November.

A child development center in Ecuador working with UK Shoulder-to-Shoulder will benefit from the drive. Several of the patients at the center have motor disorders that cause them to drool and a bandana is a functional tool that can serve as a bib but is also age-appropriate.

UK's Shoulder to Shoulder Global (STSG), started in 2005 is a UK-based initiative devoted to improving the health and quality of life in Ecuadorian communities suffering the effects of poverty, including high rates of preventable health problems, violence, low educational  attainment, and lack of safe drinking water, among other issues.

New, clean bandanas can be dropped in the box outside of the Student Lounge on the first floor of the Charles T. Wethington Building.

Founded in 1972, the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association is a pre-professional membership association for students interested in the study of communication sciences and disorders. Undergraduate and Master's students as well as doctoral candidates are encouraged to join.
