Video Games, Concerts, Comedy, and More

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 21, 2011) – With the arrival of spring lurking around the corner, the Cats Den is offering ways to stay busy. The week of Feb. 21-25 is filled with video games, concerts, comedy and even a tournament for the skilled game of Texas Hold’em.

At 7 p.m. today prepare to score a goal in the Cats Den as it hosts a FIFA 2011 Video Game Tournament. Starting at 6 p.m., participants can hone their skills of the game during a free-play hour. The 18th title in the EA Sports football series features an improved passing system, improved player likenesses, the ability to play as a Goalkeeper for the first time, and other various other tweaks and additions. Participants will also have the opportunity to compete for awesome prizes, including free-play passes.

Tuesday, Feb. 22, continues the fun-filled week at 7 p.m. with a Texas Hold’em Tournament. This is a revised tournament, so players do not have to gamble away their college tuition. Instead, players can utilize their sly moves and skillful card tricks to create a showdown. Participants will compete to win amazing prizes and the bragging rights of being champion.

Wednesday nights in the Cats Den is indicative of one thing: Comedy Caravan. Funny man Stewart Huff, will host the event on Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. The Kentucky native has been performing comedy for the last 15 years. Huff has been described as likeable and hilarious. He uses his amazing storytelling abilities and combines it with his talent to find humor in everyday life. Huff’s raw talent has been featured at the Boston Comedy Festival and the HBO Las Vegas Festival.

Ending the week on a harmonious note is a free concert by The Abe Parker Trio on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 8 p.m. The Abe Parker Trio, which is comprised of Abe Parker, Robbie Goins and Tyler Young, has been likened to have the same musical style John Mayer. They even have added a special twist to their music by incorporating acoustics, funk, and a little bit of the groove genre. If that is not enough, this awesome threesome has made music their life, finding inspiration everyday. Their upbeat, bright, and soulful melodies are sure to have you tapping your toes to their catchy beats. The concert will feature an opening act by Kentucky native Ely Cartwright.

The Cat’s Den is located on the first floor of the UK Student Center. All of the events hosted by the Cats Den are free to students, staff and faculty.
