This Week Is #blueabroad Week

Published: Jan 28, 2013

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 28, 2013) — UK students, you are already seeing blue, but Education Abroad at UK wants you to "see blue." abroad.

To promote international education opportunities to UK’s student population Education Abroad at UK is hosting a weeklong series of events throughout campus titled, “#blueabroad week."

The events will take place during the week of Jan. 28–Feb. 1 (see the full event schedule below) to highlight the range of international education opportunities, scholarship opportunities and how education abroad can enrich a student’s education goals without postponing graduation.

Seth Riker, promotion and outreach coordinator at Education Abroad, studied abroad as a student in Chile.

“As a first generation college student who was on a PELL grant, I know how expensive college can be, let alone an international airline ticket," Riker said. "While there may be obstacles, we are here to help make it happen for everyone."

In his position, Riker promotes all things international education.

"It’s frustrating to hear UK grads, or soon-to-be-grads talk about education abroad as an afterthought like ‘Oh, yeah. I should have done that.'”

Riker said that #blueabroad week aims to reach a wide variety of UK students. “And if we missed anyone Monday through Thursday, I hope to see them at our Friday open house,” Riker said.
