Audit Set for Insurance Plans' Dependents

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 6, 2010) – In July 2010, the University of Kentucky Employee Benefits Office will launch a Dependent Eligibility Verification Program to confirm the eligibility of all dependents covered under the university's health, dental and vision insurance plans.

The initiative is designed to limit benefit plan participation only to those eligible to receive coverage. It will play an important part in the university's ongoing effort to control health care costs for eligible employees, their families and the university.

The program will require all staff and faculty to submit documentation between July 1 and Aug. 31, 2010, for any dependents enrolled in health, dental and vision insurance plans. Because new regular full-time employees have been required to submit such documentation since July 1, 2009, individuals hired since that date will not be required to participate in the upcoming verification process.

Employees may remove ineligible dependents from benefit plan coverage during the current Open Enrollment period (April 26–May 14, 2010) without question. Otherwise, no action is required by employees to confirm dependent eligibility until the program begins on July 1.
