Finding the Right Career Path

LEXINGTON, Ky (May 10, 2010) – Have you ever wondered if you have chosen the right career path?

A myriad of personality traits, skills, values and interests influences your career choices.  Knowing those personal variables and being able to articulate them to your best advantage is crucial to managing your career, writing a resume, interviewing for a job, or preparing for a performance evaluation.

University of Kentucky Career Development has taken steps to help UK employees find the job best suited to them. Not only is there a series of midday workshops for supervisors as well as non-supervisors, but there are a number of online services that can be utilized in absolute privacy.

SkillScan™, an online skills assessment tool, has been purchased by Human Resources for UK staff to use free of charge. The assessment takes about 30 minutes to complete and will generate a report identifying an individual's strongest skills in the workplace. It will also point out areas for development and suggested career and educational options that align with your strengths.  Used properly, it can even help you achieve improved performance in your current job.  There are additional online services that can help improve your interviewing skills or create a personalized career development plan.

HR Career Development also schedules mid-day workshops that focus on resume writing, interview techniques and career enrichment. For more information on these and other programs for UK employees, contact the experts at Career Development online at http://www.uky.edu/HR/cd/, by phone at (859) 257-9416 or by e-mail at CareerDevelopment@uky.edu.
