Run (or Walk) for a Good Cause

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 4, 2010) – It's time to sign up for Lexington's most popular winter athletic activity – outside of Rupp Arena anyway.

The annual Heart Sole & Glove 5K Run/Walk is Saturday, Feb. 13, at Coldstream Park (Newtown Pike and Aristides Boulevard).

Register now at http://www.uky.edu/HR/wellness/5k.html. Entry fee is $15 pre-registration and $20 day of race. The Kids Fun Run is free. The first 100 registrants will receive a free pair of winter running gloves the day of the race.

Part of the proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge.

Signin or register on race day inside Embassy Suites on Newtown Pike, from 8:30-9:30 a.m. The Kids Fun Run, for ages 6 and under, begins at 9:30 a.m. with the adult run beginning at 10 a.m.

Past runners offer these tips:

--The weather in mid-February is unpredictable, so be prepared for anything. There will be no make-up date nor refund of race fee. Local media will be informed in the event of cancellation.

--Pick up race bibs 8:30-9:30 a.m. race day inside the Embassy Suites.

--The 5K is a mostly flat paved course. Traffic will be controlled by volunteers. Water will be available at the finish.

--Inside Embassy Suites, snacks and water will be available for participants. Door prizes will be awarded while awaiting race results and the award ceremony.

--Results will be available online at http://www.uky.edu/HR/wellness/5k.html within 72 hrs after the race.
