How Do I Become…From UK to NASA

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 12, 2011) – Are your dreams as big as the sky? That’s great, but how to you get there from here?

The University of Kentucky Alumni Association presents “How Do I Become…a Research Dietitian? From UK to NASA” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in the William T. Young Library Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. UK Alumni Association members will receive a free gift.

Featured in this lecture is Barbara Landrum Rice, a 1962 graduate of the University of Kentucky and a research dietitian with the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Rice works closely with the NASA space food systems group that is responsible for planning the menu which each astronaut and cosmonaut consumes in space. She determines the nutrients that are needed for living and working in microgravity by monitoring dietary intake data of crew members on Space Lab Life Sciences missions, Russian MIR Station missions and International Space Station missions.

The "How Do I Become..." lecture series features outstanding alumni who have been highly successful in their work and are returning to their alma mater to inspire current students with their career journeys.  For more information, contact Meg Phillips at meg.phillips@uky.edu or Alyssa Thornton at alyssa.thornton@uky.edu or call (859) 257-3801.
