Wildcat CareerLink Offers Online Help for Job-Seekers

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 4, 2012) — Returning students and graduating seniors at the University of Kentucky can use Wildcat CareerLink to aid their search for employment, fellowships or summer internships.

A career management tool offered through the James W. Stuckert Career Center, Wildcat CareerLink provides UK students and alumni exclusive access to information about jobs and internships, as well as career resources to help with the job search process.

The database averages 400 jobs and internships throughout the year for users to browse through.

According to Naitore Djigbenou, employer relations coordinator for the Stuckert Career Center, the average job search takes three to six months.

"Employers began posting internship and full-time job opportunities for 2013 as early as this past August," Djigbenou said. "We want students to research and apply for opportunities now to avoid the last-minute panic in April."

Accounting and finance senior Ryan Robinson has had three internships, all of which he found through Wildcat CareerLink.

"The Stuckert Career Center is the most important building at the University of Kentucky and, sadly enough, the most underutilized," Robinson said. "I believe students my age sometimes forget the reason that they came to college, and ultimately that is to get a job."

Wildcat CareerLink offers additional features, such as an interactive resume builder, a document library of sample cover letters and resumes, company profiles and contact information, a calendar of events and upcoming on-campus interviews.

"This career management tool is more than a job board,” said Lenroy Jones, associate director for the Stuckert Career Center. "This is technology designed for the job-seeker or student interested in attending graduate or professional school after graduation."

Users can upload unofficial transcripts, letters of recommendation and writing samples, and can manage all their job interviews or application deadlines on the Wildcat calendar system that syncs with their personal calendars.

Wildcat CareerLink serves as a portal, granting users access to multiple career resources. These include InterviewStream, a 24/7 virtual practice interview system that allows students to record a practice interview based on industry specific questions, and Career Insider by Vault, which provides company profiles, salary statistics and salary negotiation advice, as well as information about graduate and professional schools.

Students can register for a Wildcat CareerLink account at www.uky.edu/careercenter. For additional information, please call (859) 257-2746.
