LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 13, 2011) − The radio station WEKU-FM will broadcast the 2010 University of Kentucky Opera Theatre production of Giacomo Puccini's "La Bohème" on the program "Kentucky Center Stage" at 8 p.m. Monday, May 16, at 88.9 on the radio dial.

As international visitors descended on Lexington last fall for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, UK Opera Theatre opened its season with "La Bohème," considered by many the world’s favorite opera.

"La Bohème" is a story of young artists' loves, triumphs and tragedies set around Christmas time in 1920s Paris. Puccini's opera was based on a set of stories by Henri Murger titled "Scenes de la Vie de la Bohème." Culminating in two of opera's greatest arias, this work has gone on to inspire Broadway and Hollywood hits.

UK's 2010 production of "La Bohème," sung in Italian, was directed by Michael Ehrman, who has won acclaim for his productions at Houston Grand Opera, Greater Miami Opera, Minnesota Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Atlanta Opera, Boston Lyric Opera and Chicago Opera Theater. The broadcast of the Lexington Opera House performance features soprano and doctoral candidate Catherine Clarke Nardolillo and award-winning tenor and alumnus Gregory Turay in the lead roles.

Next up for UK Opera Theatre is the popular musical revue "It's a Grand Night for Singing." Considered one of the summer's biggest arts events, "Grand Night" has become known for its performances of beloved Hollywood, Broadway and Top 40 tunes. This year's production takes the stage at 7:30 p.m., June 10, 11, 17 and 18, and 2 p.m., June 12 and 19. All performances will be presented at the Singletary Center for the Arts.
