LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 7, 2017) Central Kentucky audiences have only three more opportunities to run with “The Wolves” at University of Kentucky Department of Theatre and Dance’s performances of the Sarah DeLappe play this week. The production, a critically acclaimed examination of “girl power” featuring an all female cast, will be staged Dec. 7-9, in the Guignol Theatre.

“The Wolves” is about teen spirit, angst, gossip and goals. Nine women on a soccer field passing words among each other, and anticipating the moves of their opponents. They are ready to fight and win as a team, but each maintain their own individual drive. A Pulitzer Prize finalist, Forbes called the play “a milestone for women in entertainment.”

To prepare for the physical demands of this production, UK Theatre’s cast worked with Mike McKinney, Sayre High School’s girls' varsity soccer coach, and his team to get a realistic idea of how a sports team's mentality presents itself in practice and game situations, as well as learn some soccer skills.

“We were able to join the Sayre girls' soccer team for their last home game so that we could experience the pre-game energy and get a better sense of the type of pressure and exertion the players go through,” guest director Rowen Haigh told the Kentucky Kernel.

"The Wolves" is recommended for audiences 13 and older due to adult themes.

Performers for “The Wolves” will charge the Guignol stage 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 7-9. Tickets for the production are $15 for general admission and $10 for UK students with a valid school ID available for purchase through the Singletary Center box office. For tickets, contact the box office at 859-257-4929, visit online at www.scfatickets.com or purchase in person during operating hours. A processing fee will be applied to transaction upon purchase.

The UK Department of Theatre and Dance at UK College of Fine Arts has played an active role in the performance scene in Central Kentucky for more than 100 years and is currently celebrating 50 years of offering theatre as an educational program of study.
