LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 1, 2021) — Members are an integral part of the University of Kentucky Art Museum family. They support staff by serving as ambassadors both on and off campus, maximizing the institution's reach in vital ways. Members spread the word about the UK Art Museum's mission and the impact it has on diverse artists and audiences. A new membership drive hopes to add 25% more members to the family in the coming months and in turn expand the possibilities of reaching even more art lovers. There are levels for students, faculty and staff,  individuals, families, and patrons. They all make a difference.

If you aren’t already one of the hundreds of current members, you may not understand the real impact you can have. Support helps maintain the museum's free admission policy and pays for all the costs associated with making dynamic exhibitions, including professional packing and shipping, artist travel, matting and framing, printing, materials for Family Day, and much more.

"The number of members we have signifies how many people believe in us and what we do. If you join today, you will be investing in the cultural life of the university, Lexington, and Kentucky," said Stuart Horodner, director of the UK Art Museum.

In addition to members helping the staff create an inclusive and significant place for art, they also receive exclusive benefits as thanks for their commitment — including a personal parking code for the Gatton Student Center visitor lot, located across from the museum’s entrance, exclusive tours and events, and discounts to the UK Art Museum's shop.

The University of Kentucky Art Museum, part of the UK College of Fine Arts, promotes the understanding and appreciation of art from diverse cultures and historical periods, providing meaningful encounters for audiences of all ages. Through temporary exhibitions, educational programs, and permanent collection of approximately 5000 objects, the museum is a resource for the campus community and a cultural destination for citizens of the Commonwealth and beyond. The UK Art Museum's Free Admission policy removes any financial obstacle that might stand in the way of opportunities for contemplation and connection.

UK Art Museum is proud to be accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, meeting standards for excellence and professional practices.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
