LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 22, 2016) Local TV station WKYT will broadcast the 11th anniversary "Celebration of Song" sing-along holiday concert featuring University of Kentucky Opera Theatre vocalists leading the community in popular carols. The concert programming will air twice on Christmas at 12:35 a.m. and again at 8 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 25, on WKYT. It will also air at 7 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 25, on Lexington's CW channel.

Conducted by Director of UK Opera Theatre Everett McCorvey, "Celebration of Song" featured performances of beloved carols by award-winning vocalists from UK Opera Theatre.

Lending their talents to the celebration this year were several vocalists, including former Miss Kentucky Clark Janell Davis, a UK junior majoring in voice performance and political science; Metropolitan Opera star and faculty member Cynthia Lawrence; UK alumnus and Alltech Artist-in-Residence at Centre College Gregory Turay; and UK SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) a cappella group Blue Note. WKYT Anchor Barbara Bailey hosted the free public concerts held Dec. 11, at The Square.

Each year "Celebration of Song," presented in conjunction with Alltech, encourages the Central Kentucky community to become part of the concert and sing along to a great selection of well-known seasonal songs and carols.

UK Opera Theatre is part of the UK School of Music at the UK College of Fine Arts. The School of Music has garnered national recognition for high-caliber education in opera, choral and instrumental music performance, as well as music education, composition, and theory and music history.
