Celebrating our Diversity: UK Inclusive Excellence Award

Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017

At the University of Kentucky, we are striving to develop a greater sense belonging and inclusivity for all members of the UK family. We know that we must continue to work toward becoming a community where our embrace of diversity and expression welcomes everyone — of every race and religion, identity and perspective, and party and ideology. As a campus and community, we must be a place that respectfully engages in courageous conversations about our differences.

This responsibility—to be a campus community that welcomes all and encourages open, respectful, and civil dialogue—permeates throughout our Strategic Plan.

To that end, resources exist across on our campus to provide support and assist in facilitating an environment of belonging. We want to celebrate the members of the UK family who go above and beyond in their dedication to diversity and inclusion.

The University of Kentucky Office of Faculty Advancement is now accepting nominations for the University of Kentucky Inclusive Excellence Award. The award will recognize the accomplishments of individuals and academic or professional units that demonstrate a sustained commitment to diversity and inclusion through campus and community involvement and exemplary leadership.

Up to four awards will be granted each year in four categories: student (undergraduate and graduate), faculty, staff, and academic or professional units.

You can find more information about guidelines for submitting nominations here.

The deadline to submit nomination letters and recommendations to the Office of Faculty Advancement is 4 p.m., on Friday, March 3. The recipients will be honored at a formal ceremony on April 25.

I hope you will consider nominating a member of the UK family for this award. A sense of belonging is vital for all members of our community. It represents one of the four pillars of student success, and allows us remain a place of discourse, respect, and growth.
