Film Series Previews "War in Film" Forum

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 2, 2010) - The University of Kentucky School of Journalism and Telecommunications will present a film series April 5-10 as part of the "Covering Conflicts in a Modern World" conference on war, history and journalism being held on campus the same week.

The series will lead up to a public forum on "War in Film" to discuss portrayals of war and history that will be held Sunday, April 11 at 2:30 p.m. in the UK Student Center's Center Theater. The forum will feature actor Steve Zahn ("National Security" and "Rescue Dawn"), producer and military adviser Dale Dye ("Saving Private Ryan," "Platoon," and the new HBO series "The Pacific"), documentary producers Molly Bingham and Steve Connors ("Meeting Resistance"), and UK Telecommunications Professor Tom Lindlof.

Feature films "Saving Private Ryan" and "The Killing Fields" will be shown, along with award-winning documentaries "Meeting Resistance" and "Control Room." Each film will be shown twice during the week. Times and locations are listed below:

--6 p.m. Wednesday, April 7 in the William T. Young Library auditorium

"The Killing Field"

--6 p.m. Tuesday, April 6 in Memorial Hall

--5:30 p.m. Friday, April 9 in the William T. Young Library auditorium

"Meeting Resistance"

--6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7 in Memorial Hall

--6 p.m. Saturday, April 10 in the William T. Young Library auditorium.

"Control Room"

--6 p.m. Tuesday, April 6 in the William T. Young Library auditorium

--8 p.m. Wednesday, April 7 in Memorial Hall.
