Honor a Teacher Who Made a Difference
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 26, 2010) − Last year more than 150 teachers were recognized by the University of Kentucky College of Education Teachers Who Made a Difference program. The UK College of Education and UK basketball great Kyle Macy are teaming up to offer the program again in 2010 and are currently accepting submissions. The deadline for nominations is March 8, 2010.

"A teacher may not realize how much impact she or he has had on a student until that student has gone on and become successful. It's good for teachers to now reap some of the reward."
Macy, one of Kentucky's best known and most popular basketball figures, was a two-time All-American at UK and played on the Wildcats' 1978 national championship team. He played three seasons at Kentucky after spending one season at Purdue. Currently, Macy is the TV color analyst for UK basketball games which are telecast on the Big Blue Sports Network, and he is the head coach of the Bluegrass Stallions, a local professional basketball team. He also coaches tennis at a local high school and runs a summer tennis program.

The program does not select winners from a pool of nominees. Rather, the UK College of Education created the program to provide individuals a means to express thanks to educators who have impacted their lives. Honorees can be from anywhere and do not have to be affiliated with UK; however, the number of honorees to be recognized is limited. Organizers ask that nominators limit recognitions to one teacher per year.
To honor a teacher, visit the UK College of Education’s Web site at www.education.uky.edu/Community/TWMAD and complete the online form by March 8.
More than 1,300 teachers have been honored since the program’s inception. The Teachers Who Made a Difference program includes a special recognition event and reception attended by both the teachers and their nominators.
