Board of Trustees Approves Renovation of Student Recreation Fields

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 2, 2017) — Today, the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees approved a project proposal to renovate and upgrade student recreation fields.

With the growth in overall student population and student residents in central and south campus, there has been an increase in student recreation needs. The project will address some of these needs and is a critical part of the implementation of the University's South Campus Master Plan.

The project will renovate and upgrade existing fields adjacent to Cooper Drive to support campus recreation programs including soccer, rugby, lacrosse, flag football and field hockey. The project will replace the natural grass surface with a synthetic surface and will include grade and lighting improvements.

The capital project was authorized by the 2016 Session of the Kentucky General Assembly with a scope of $2 million to be funded with private funds. A request to increase the authorized scope by $1.5 million – to be paid with private funds – to total $3.5 million will be submitted to the Capital Projects and Bond Oversight Committee.
