LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 23, 2020) From its beloved hub — William T. Young Library — to its other eight campus locations serving patrons in almost any area of study from the arts to the sciences, University of Kentucky Libraries has earned a reputation as one of the nation’s leading research library systems.

Serving not only UK students, faculty and staff, but also visitors from across the Commonwealth and researchers worldwide online, UK Libraries is home to a vast selection of materials, collections and information resources (both physical and electronic) and an esteemed faculty and staff with a wide range of expertise in such areas as discovery systems and information technology, special collections and preservation, information literacy and reference help, research data management, and digital technologies.

In addition to scholarly resources, UK Libraries also offers a selection of specially designed study and workspaces campuswide where students, researchers and even patients’ loved ones can peruse its materials.

“We are here to help everybody,” Way said. “Come visit us and talk to us. We have a wonderful faculty that are really willing and excited to help everybody, whatever they are doing in their studies or research.”

On this campus walk, join Way as he stops by some of UK Libraries’ branches to see how the system addresses the needs of patrons from all walks of life.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
