College of Arts and Sciences' Podcast Features Don Gross on the Election

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 1, 2012) The College of Arts and Sciences produces podcasts that demonstrate work being done by the faculty and students in the college. Each week, UKNow will highlight a podcast. This week focuses on the presidential election.

By the time this year's Presidential election rolls around, many voters will be as turned off as they are excited. Why? The constant presence of political ads can exhaust voters' confidence in the political process. But what makes these ads possible? The answer is the incredible influx of money into modern politics that may be just as often used to bludgeon as to persuade and inform voters.

In this podcast, UK political science professor Donald Gross discusses this very topic. Having been at UK for 36 years, Gross has examined the ins-and-outs of campaign finance; he helps explain the role of money in politics today while also shedding light on important questions regarding the 2012 presidential election.
