LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 2, 2010) – University staff from across the country who welcome visitors to their campuses everyday will be guests of the University of Kentucky and Lexington this week.

The Collegiate Information & Visitor Services Association (CIVSA) will hold its 17th annual conference in Lexington June 2-6.

CIVSA is a national organization that promotes and enhances the profession of collegiate information and visitors services. Nearly 150 attendees from 34 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, and Trinidad & Tobago will attend this year's conference in Lexington.

“It is an honor that the University of Kentucky and the city of Lexington are hosting the CIVSA conference because it offers us the opportunity to promote what sets UK and the town a part," said Don Witt, vice provost of enrollment management. "We have much to be proud of and we look forward to extending a 'see blue' welcome to all attendees!”

Stephen Barnett, associate director of admission and associate registrar, is serving as the host for the five-day conference.

"This is a chance for professionals from across the country to learn more about collegiate information and visitors' services while enjoying the hospitality that UK and the Bluegrass are famous for showing," said Barnett. "They will take the information they learn here back to their home colleges and universities to better serve their prospective students and visitors."

“I am very pleased with the excellent support the CIVSA conference has had from across Enrollment Management," said Witt. "It is a true team effort and I congratulate Stephen Barnett and everyone in the department for a job well done.”

Attendees will attend numerous sessions, but will also have a chance to tour horse farms, the Woodford Reserve Distillery, and the University of Kentucky.

Even the main speakers for the conference have UK connections. UK alumnus Bruce Rector, author of "Monday Morning Messages: Teaching, Inspiring and Motivating to Lead," will talk to attendees about improving performance through purposeful changes in attitudes and behaviors. UK alumnus, Bob Owen, who is known for his humorous motivational speeches, will be the closing speaker for the conference on Saturday.
