Community Comes to Campus as Part of Homecoming 2010

of

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 19, 2010) – It’s not quite the circus, but a “Kitty Karnival” and a basketball tournament headline today’s Homecoming activities. UK’s Student Homecoming Coalition has a fun-filled Tuesday planned for Wildcats of all ages.

First, little ghouls and goblins are invited to campus for an old-fashioned fall festival hosted by the Student Activities Board (SAB) and UK’s student organizations. Clubs and groups from across campus have constructed fun carnival-like games for the “Kitty Karnival” that is sure to be fun for children of all ages. Children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes and have a great time playing games, enjoying a petting zoo and winning prizes and candy. The Kitty Karnival is from 5–7 p.m. in the South Campus courtyard on UK’s campus. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Student Center Grand Ballroom.

“Kitty Karnival is a popular event for the community and student organizations alike,” Jaclyn Hawkins, SAB traditions committee chair, said. “Student organizations really enjoy getting to build games for the children to play and interacting with them and their families.”

The carnival games aren’t the only competition that’s happening on Tuesday. The long standing debate of who is “mo’ betta” will be settled, at least for the next year, at the annual Mo’ Betta Basketball Game, hosted by the Black Student Union (BSU). In this hardwood battle, alumni, faculty and staff battle the ballers of the BSU for year-long bragging rights and there’s an electrifying halftime routine. The 20th annual game begins at 7 p.m. in the Seaton Center.
