COVID-19 Update Issued Nov. 5

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 5, 2021) — University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto issued an update to the campus community about the university's response to COVID-19 on the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 5. You can read that message below.

Campus Community,

Each week, these updates afford me the opportunity to reflect upon the power of this community: the power of we.

Because of your compassion and determination — the care you demonstrate and the effort you exert to protect those around you — we continue to make incredible progress in combating this pandemic. This week, our campus vaccination rate is at more than 89%.

Broken down among population segments, these rates are:

  • Faculty – 97%
  • Staff – 92%
  • Student – 87%
  • Campus – 88%
  • UK HealthCare – 92%

Each vaccine administered is another step forward in protecting our community against a foe that crosses countries and continents indiscriminately. If you have not yet decided to be vaccinated, I encourage you to request an appointment at ukvaccine.org. Vaccines represent our strongest defense against this virus.

Vaccines for Children Ages 5-17

To that end, we are thrilled to announce that UK HealthCare and Kentucky Children’s Hospital will offer a COVID-19 vaccination clinic by appointment only for children ages 5-17 beginning Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 245 Fountain CourtThis clinic will offer a child-friendly environment, supported by child life specialists.

The clinic will operate Monday - Friday, 1-7 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

A parent or guardian must accompany children. Multiple children from the same family can be scheduled at the same time. The clinic also will be able to accommodate children with developmental or physical needs.

Those interested in vaccinating their children should register at ukvaccine.org and look for the button for ages 5-17. Frequently asked questions about pediatric COVID-19 vaccines also are available on the website.

I’m deeply grateful for the commitment I see each and every day from this campus.

Thank you for being part of a community that cares.

Eli Capilouto
