LEXINGTON, KY (Feb. 19, 2024) — Start spring with a clean slate! If you have a regular ($30) parking citation on your account, you can take advantage of University of Kentucky's upcoming Donations for Citations drive to settle it. The drive is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 26, through Friday, March 8.

Donations for Citations is a popular program that helps stock the shelves at UK’s Big Blue Pantry (BBP). Donations are used to help combat food insecurity on campus and provide students with personal care items.

The first-ever Halloween drive last year was so successful that some pantry items are still in stock. BBP has an updated list of donation needs this year, so please review the list below before purchasing your items, as some specific canned goods are not currently needed.

Participating in Donations for Citations is easy! Simply bring your donations to UK Transportation Services' Customer Care Center, located at 721 Press Avenue. The office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. BBP staff cannot void citations on-site at their office; all donations must be delivered to the Transportation Services’ Customer Care Center.

Ten (10) non-perishable (no glass, please) food items or five (5) personal care items (no trial sizes) will waive one regular citation of $30 or less. Regular citations do not include immobilizations, impoundments, parking in fire lanes, ADA accessible parking violations, or improper application or use of parking permits. Customers with unpaid citations must also pay any other outstanding citations to have one waived under this program. Citations waived through the drive are not eligible for appeal.

This year, BBP is asking for the following food and personal care items:

Suggested food donation items:

Cereal, instant oatmeal, granola bars, pop tarts or other grab-n-go breakfast items, boxed macaroni, noodles, crackers, canned pasta sauce, rice, canned meats such as chicken, tuna, beef, pork or vegetarian alternatives, canned chili or ravioli, canned soups, individual cups of fruit or applesauce, shelf-stable microwave meals, peanut butter, condiments, jellies, shelf-stable salad dressing

*The pantry is currently fully stocked with canned vegetables and canned beans. These items are not needed at this time.*

Please also note:  Expired, damaged or opened donations will not be accepted. In addition, refrigerated items or those in glass containers will not be accepted.

Suggested personal care items:

Cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, hand sanitizer, body soap, shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, razors, tampons, sanitary pads, first aid or medical supplies

Please also note: Expired, damaged or opened donations will not be accepted. No trial sizes, please.

If you have questions about Donations for Citations, please email UK Transportation Services or call the office at 859-257-5757.

Big Blue Pantry is a part of the Office for Student Success's Student Well-Being Area. Visit the Pantry’s website for information about BBP hours of operation or to offer donations outside of this program. BBP has an online gift fund which allows the organization to accept monetary donations that are used to purchase food items.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
