LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 3, 2025) — Mark your calendars, Wildcats — National First-Generation Day is coming up on Nov. 8. The University of Kentucky is once again rolling out a celebration to honor the incredible achievements of our first-generation community; a week packed with exciting events, inspiring stories and opportunities to connect and celebrate what it means to be First-Gen proud.

While the national celebration takes place each year on Nov. 8, UK makes it a weeklong affair because one day simply isn’t enough to celebrate the strength, resilience and accomplishments of our first-generation community. Hosted by the Office for Student Success and CARES First-Generation, this year’s First-Generation Week will bring the UK community together!

Since the Council for Opportunity in Education and FirstGen Forward launched the inaugural celebration in 2017, hundreds of universities, nonprofits and schools have joined in, recognizing the trailblazers who are first in their families to pursue higher education.

At UK, the celebration goes beyond the week; it’s part of an ongoing commitment to empowering first-generation students every step of the way. Through tailored support, academic resources, leadership development and community-building programs, CARES First-Generation ensures that first-gen Wildcats don’t just attend college — they thrive in it! From the moment students step onto campus to the day they cross the Commencement stage, they are supported, seen and celebrated as essential members of the Wildcat family.

This year’s First-Generation Week promises to bring even more excitement, connection and Wildcat pride, with a full lineup of events that highlight community, creativity and campus spirit.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
