Fitness and Fun: Bicycle-Friendly August Events
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 1, 2018) — Want to explore all of your cycling options at the University of Kentucky? These upcoming August events will help you meet like-minded students, faculty and staff and learn practical bike safety information, enjoy free food and even win prizes from Wildcat Wheels.
Kentucky Bike Walk Summit
Thursday, Aug. 16, and Friday, Aug. 17, at Transylvania University
Listen as national and local leaders discuss ways to make Kentucky more bike and pedestrian-friendly. Wildcat Wheels representatives will be on hand to discuss women and cycling, safe streets and bicycle friendly universities. Visit https://kybikewalksummit.com for registration and complete details.
Wildcat Wheels Open House 3-5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, first floor of Blazer Dining, near the corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Avenue of Champions Tour the Wildcat Wheels bicycle shop, enjoy free fruit smoothies and enter to win a bicycle give-away.
Pedalpalooza 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the Johnson Center Field Learn practical safety, signaling and signage tips and become familiar with using bus bicycle racks. Test your knowledge during a bike safety trivia game and pedal your own fruit smoothie using the bicycle blender. The Wildcat Wheels mobile bike shop will also be on-site to help with all of your bicycle maintenance-related challenges. Plus, enter to win a free Apple Watch.
Upcoming Deadlines All UK students and employees are invited to check out a bicycle from Wildcat Wheels for free for the fall semester. There are 100 bicycles available, all applicants will be entered into a lottery. The deadline to apply for the fall semester bike lottery is Friday, Aug. 24. To enter the lottery, complete this online application: www.uky.edu/transportation/alternative-transportation_bicycle-information_wildcatwheels_semester. Recipients will be notified of their status on Monday, Aug. 27.
Wildcat Wheels is a nationally recognized program on campus that provides free bicycle use and repair assistance to students, faculty and staff and operates an on-campus bike shop to assist with bicycle maintenance and repair.
