LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 31, 2017) — Bonnie Mays of Lexington, and Jessica Parrish of Pikeville, Kentucky, are the 2017 co-chairs of the University of Kentucky Women & Philanthropy Network’s Leadership Council, announced Paula Pope, director of philanthropic engagement in UK Philanthropy. Both assumed office Jan. 1.

Mays, who is beginning the second year of her two-year term, and Parrish, who begins her first, were named to their leadership roles at the annual UK Women & Philanthropy Symposium held at Spindletop Hall, Nov. 11, 2016.

“Since 2007, the University of Kentucky Women & Philanthropy Network has played a pivotal role raising awareness and philanthropic support for this university,” said Mike Richey, vice president for philanthropy. “We are most grateful to Bonnie Mays and Jessica Parrish as they guide the organization to even greater heights. They, along with the network’s 34 members and five past co-chairs, are helping President Eli Capilouto instill a culture of philanthropy across the university community.”

Others named to committee positions include: Membership Committee Co-Chairs Sandy Patterson, Fort Thomas, Kentucky, and Nellie Wilkinson, Lexington; and Program Committee Co-Chairs Tonya Parsons, Lexington, and Ruth Webb Kelly, Salvisa, Kentucky.

The University of Kentucky Women & Philanthropy Network is an organization committed to bringing together women who share the ambition of building a better UK through philanthropy. Under the leadership of former UK President Lee T. Todd Jr., the UK Women & Philanthropy Network was co-founded by former UK First Lady Patsy Todd and Nawanna Privett as a viable and meaningful way to recognize the essential and continuing role of women in the life and progress of the university, Pope said.

Since its establishment, the UK Women & Philanthropy Network has awarded grants for scholarships, fellowships, education abroad, research and special programs totaling nearly $1.6 million.

Membership in the organization is open to all interested women. A $1,000 annual contribution is required, and the pool of contributions is awarded in full to proposals approved by the membership.
