Martin School Hosts Student Open House

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 7, 2010) −With a strong national reputation and at an exceptional value, The University of Kentucky Martin School of Public Policy and Administration offers graduate degrees including the Master of Public Administration, Master of Public Policy and doctoral programs in public policy and administration.

The Martin School invites prospective graduate students to investigate careers in public administration and public policy at an open house from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27 on the 18th Floor of the Patterson Office Tower on UK's campus.

Ranked in the top 20 of public university MPA programs by U.S. News and World Report and most recently in the top ten for doctoral training in Public Affairs and Administration by the National Research Council, the Master of Public Administration is a NASPAA accredited two-year program with specializations in a number of management or policy areas. In particular, the Martin School is ranked fourth in the country in Public Budgeting and Finance.

Transportation Systems Management, Gerontology, Non-Profit Management, Policy Analysis and International Political Economy are also strong programs, preparing students to lead public service organizations in the public, non-profit, consulting and private sectors.

The Master of Public Policy is a two-year, 40 credit hour degree that prepares individuals for careers as policy analysts in government and non-profit organizations. The degree also provides solid preparation for students considering pursuing doctoral level education in the field.

The Martin School doctoral program in public policy and administration prepares students for university teaching, research and senior policy analysis positions.

The highly ranked school provides excellent financial assistance opportunities for students as well, including fellowships, research assistants and tuition support. Out-of-state students may qualify for the Ezra Gillis tuition scholarship, which provides a $5,000 scholarship toward the non-resident portion of the tuition.

The Martin school is an intimate, ranked, selective program, capped at 35 new students in each program each year. Both full-and part-time students are welcome. Evening classes are offered as well.

"This is an event designed to encourage people who have expressed interest in the Martin School to come and learn more," said Martin School Student Affairs Officer Sarah Lee.

Refreshments will be available for those who attend. Complimentary visitor parking will also be provided at Parking Structure #5 on South Limestone and South Upper Streets. Faculty, current students and alumni will also be on-hand to answer questions and discuss Martin School programming.
