Motheral Appointed to Pharmacy Practice and Science

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 22, 2010) − Brenda Motheral has been appointed associate professor at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and will join the Institute for Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy (iPOP) in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science in August 2010.
 

Motheral was president and co-founder of CareScientific, a research and consulting company focused on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of disease management, health and wellness and pharmaceutical care programs.
 

In 1991, Motheral received her bachelor of science degree in Pharmacy followed by her MBA in 1993 focusing on Health Administration from UK. In 1995, she graduated with honors from the University of South Carolina with her Ph.D. focusing on Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy. She has previously served on the faculty of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy.
 

Motheral's research interests include pharmacoeconomics and pharmaceutical policy, with an emphasis on the use of large medical claims datasets. She has more than 50 peer-reviewed and invited publications in clinical and policy-oriented healthcare journals, including Health Affairs, Medical Care and JAMA. The research has been covered by the national press, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today and National Public Radio.
